These Cows are some of the best Cows we have purchased. Steve Brown AI’d them with semen from Bando USA 9074 and we have some excellent calves on the ground.
Greg and I had been looking for Angus cattle to start our own Angus Stud ‘Rivergum’ for at least a couple of years. Fearing tick-fever-disease we wanted to purchase quality cattle from a coastal supplier. We had tough criteria to fulfil. We knew what we wanted, temperament, confirmation, good skin, plenty of milk, big spring of rib and big framed cattle. They also had to be registered and professionally cared for and well documented not much of a criteria at all. On the first visit to Dingo Bend we were to purchase just 6 APR and 2 HBR heifers just to see if we were doing the right thing, we had always bred purebred Friesian cattle and purebred Australian Stock Horses, so Angus beef cattle were unknown to us.
We were greeted by two of the most professional, passionate stud owner managers, Ross and Elissa Elphick whose animal husbandry, record keeping and breeding practices were exemplary and met our high standards and criteria of what type of cattle we were looking for.
Based on experience it is always better to purchase stud cattle or horses from reputable studs preferably straight out of their paddock. While we were there my husband spotted some cows he would like to purchase from Ross and Elissa and eventually we persuaded Ross to part with them to our delight.
We now have 20 cows and calves 14 HBR and 6 APR, all seed stock from Dingo Bend and we plan to purchase more in the future. Ross and Elissa have been a wealth of knowledge and have been honest and helped us to make many decisions about our stud program.
We highly recommend Dingo Bend Angus Stud.
Our bull has grown a big boy now and he is very quiet. He is the best tempered bull that we have ever owned. Hope one day you will see him for yourselves.
I just want to give you some positive feedback on your steers; the last of which went to WBE last week (the last of the ones I bought in Feb this year). The last 7 averaged 312.64kg dressed, 11.7mm of fat. (one dressed 360.5kg and went MSA Blue Grid due to being overweight for MSA YG… I couldn’t believe it).Prior to that (Aug and Oct) 12 of yours averaged 284.5kg, 10.4mm fat.All up, 19 head of yours av. 295kg dressed, all milk tooth and pasture fed only. Of course they have had A1 nutrition since April, but I’m impressed with the large gain I’ve seen with your well bred cattle vs others I’ve brought, which have taken longer to finish and are no-where near the weight. I’ve sold approx 15 others (bought elsewhere) in the same period and estimate they averaged 260kg dressed, 8mm of fat, were mainly 2 tooth and I had them all for over 12 months.
So let me know if you want to sell any in the future!
Ross and Elissa are knowledgeable, committed stud breeders with an exceptional well cared for herd and beautifully maintained property.
The entire experience from start to finish was fabulous. We were able to see DBA Ranger’s sire Mytty and the cow herd, and comprehensive EBV records and animal histories were provided when we arrived. We chose our bull (tough choice, all of them were exceptional animals) and they kept us informed every step of the way. Our boy Ranger arrived at our property and settled in immediately, a well trained, handled and quiet young sire for our heifers. I would not hesitate to recommend Ross and Elissa’s stud for your next bull purchase. We will return when we need another bull, of that we are certain! Thank you so much Ross and Elissa, we can’t wait for our first drop of Sangus calves!
